Liberty (Bedloe's Island), New York Harbor
The 151-foot-tall statue of Liberty enlightening the world was a gift
from Franceto the United States in 1884. Designed by sculptor
Frederic-Auguste Batholdi, its iron-and-steel framework was engineered by
Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel, builder of the Eiffel Tower.
National Monument 1924. N.Y.C. Landmark September 14, 1976.
